Why PPP and not the exchange rate?
The exchange rate tells you how many shekels you get for €1. It doesn't tell you what you can buy with those shekels.
Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) measures how much a basket of goods (rent, food, transport) actually costs in each country. It's the correct measure for comparing living standards.
Example: an engineer earning €4,500/month in France and one earning ₪22,000/month in Israel have a similar standard of living — not the one earning ₪18,000 (raw exchange rate).
